1987 India - UAE Cable

Manufactured by Standard Telephones & Cables Ltd. for VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd., now Tata Communications), this 1380 nm cable was laid from Fujairah, UAE to Mumbai (Bombay), India. MV Galaxa laid the Bombay shore end, while the main run was laid by CS Cable Venture.

Lightweight deep water cable

Laying commenced on 10 February 1987 and the cable was inaugurated on 10 November of that year. The photograph below shows Mr. Santosh Mohan Dev, Minister of State for Communications, at the inauguration ceremony in Bombay.
