CS ALBANY

Chartered for the 1866 Atlantic expedition to recover the 1865 cable and so fitted with a picking up machine to carry out this task. When Great Eastern arrived Albany had been grappling for a week without success. Great Eastern and Medway finally raised the cable thanks to the buoying of the line of the cable by Albany which was so accurate that when the Great Eastern raised the cable she bumped into one of the buoys placed by Albany three weeks earlier.
