1858 Atlantic Cable Seal | ||||||
This seal, made from a piece of the 1858 Atlantic cable, is in the Bell Canada Historical Collection. This would have been used to stamp the owner’s initials in the wax seals used to secure letters and other documents. The image showing the initials has been photographically reversed for clarity. The Bell Collection also includes another identical seal with different initials; that seal was given to its first owner by his employer, the Hudson's Bay Company, probably in the late 1800s.
